Every ten years, six young magicians are chosen to apply for the secretive Alexandrian Society. Each person brings their own special talent including a cosmologist, a telepath, a naturalist and an empath. Only five will survive long enough to be accepted at the end of the year - they need to ask themselves if the society is really worth risking their life for?
I can't answer that question (spoilers!) but it is a gloriously dark intellectual fantasy novel full of twists, perfect for my fellow Naomi Novik fans. If you're on BookTok then you know this was a self-publishing phenomenon last year, and has now been picked up by a publisher. It has apparently undergone some much needed editing, so even if you have the original, consider it a collector's edition and still read this (plus the new cover is beautiful!). And the even better news is that there will be a sequel - The Atlas Paradox (coming late October 2022).
