This is my top book of 2024 so far. It made me so uncomfortable but it is addictive reading, I did not want to put it down so I finished it in one sitting... Because All Fades is a debut by a young Kiwi author about two couples who go on holiday to Italy. From the prologue you're told that something happens while they’re there but then you're left anxiously and furiously turning pages to find out what it is! It's how the characters react to this incident that I found so relatable, so telling and so intriguing. This one is an eye opener - it explores topics like fragile masculinity, toxic relationships, drugs and alcohol but overall: temptation. There are so many layers to this novel. It’s all at once a drama, thriller, and a coming of age. The whole book gives you the same feeling as the show White Lotus: you'll be stressed out but you will enjoy the ride it takes you on.
I would highly recommend this for book clubs because once you read it you're going to want to talk about it.
