A group of historians (do not call them time travellers!) travel back in time from sometime in the near future, to document and witness historical events. These include events such as Joan of Arc’s death, coronations and dinosaurs, and their job is purely to observe… But of course they get into mischief, disaster is waiting for them around every corner, and on more than one occasion History hits back to reassert itself to its correct timeline!! There is also a baddie who reappears throughout the series for some extra tension.
The Chronicles of St Mary’s is one of my favourite series of all time - this is the first book of 13, plus there are various short stories and a spinoff series which follows the Time Police if you wish to fully immerse yourself in Max’s world. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good time-travel story, particularly if you also have a love of/interest in history. They are hilarious, and are quite action-packed which means they’re very hard to put down! They follow on from each other so do need to be read in order. See below for the rest of the series.
