I don't know about you but when I read a lot of fantasy books in a row I start to think - I'm so over magic. I'm over wands and spells, special powers and world-building, magical beings and evil beings, they all blend into the same, I get bored and start to feel like there's never anything new and exciting... Until I start the next book and I'm like "oh my god wow a new type of power, how creative" and I get sucked right back in! Tidal powers may not be new to you but they're new to me. I loved how the magic in this novel is linked to the tides and the moon phases. I thought the magic was so well fleshed out and breathed to life through the characters and their lunar alignments. This is beautifully woven dark academia with mysterious rituals, secret societies, unrequited love, longing and hope. Ages 14+
