This will be one of my top books for the year - I loved it so much and could not put it down! Navarre has been warring with their neighbour for 400 years, so when citizens turn 20, they are conscripted to enter Basgiath college for three years (if they survive long enough) to learn the art of dragon riding, being a scribe, healing or infantry. Violet had always intended to be a scribe but her mother forces her to enter the dragon riders quadrant. What follows is Violet’s first year as a dragon rider: it’s full of spicy romance, fierce powerful dragons, and really cool magical abilities - dragon power manifests as a signet in their bonded human so everyone’s main power is different. I’d describe it as a mix of The Hunger Games and A Court of Thorns & Roses but with dragons. It’s going to be a series, and it ends on a cliffhanger so I really cannot wait for the next one, which is due later this year!
