16-year-old Selby struggles with school, to the point that her parents get her a tutor. When she starts reading Hamlet aloud with him, she finds she can teleport them into the play itself through the magic of reading. This is a modern retelling of Hamlet, with a mix of direct quotes and the text woven in as dialogue. It certainly couldn’t be used in lieu of the play as it changes the ending, but it does lend a modern day take on it to aid understanding on the general plot. Ages 12+ and perfect for school libraries.
