It has been seven years since 12yo Cassie Morgan last saw her mother. Left at a dreary boarding school, she is certain that her mother is still alive and she is determined to find her, whatever the dangers. Lost and alone, she is chased by a pack of goblins but, to her surprise, escapes with the help of a flying broom and a talking cat named Montague, who takes her to the cosy village of Hedgely. Here she discovers that she comes from a family of witches, women who protect Britain from the denizens of Faerie.
Cassie discovers that witches are not born, they’re made- meaning anyone can learn witchy skills and become a witch. She joins the coven, which is super witchy with flying brooms, talking animals and brewing spells in their cauldrons.
It’s a magical story full of goblins, faeries, missing children and the power of friendship. It will be a series too with more coming from next year onwards. Recommended for ages 9+.
