This was the very first book I read in 2023 and it might just make it into my top ten reads for the year which is a big call! Achingly beautiful, I loved the relatable characters with all their flaws and generosity of spirit, and humour; the sense of hope and joy during a period of profound sadness. We All Want Impossible Things is life-affirming storytelling from a gifted writer. Yes this is a book set in a hospice. It’s a book about dying and pain and loss, but it’s also a book about living fully, and appreciating every moment. It’s about love and family and friendship and I literally carried it around the house with me when I wasn’t reading because I didn’t want to break my connection to the characters and their story.
