If I have ever shoved The House in the Cerulean Sea into your hands, then this is the book for you! T.J. Klune has done it again with the whimsical wholesomeness that made me love House so much. In this story, Vic is a human who lives a happy existence with his adopted android father Giovanni, and his robot friends Nurse Ratched and Rambo. All is well until Vic and his friends discover HAP, a decommissioned android in the Scrap Yard, which inevitably leads them down a path that will have them questioning the meaning of family. What I love the most about T.J. Klune’s novels is the queer representation and the human/other romances - at their heart, they’re really just about loving people for themselves and accepting differences. It’s inspired by Pinnochio, but it’s not a retelling - it’s so sweet, and the sarcastically blunt Nurse Ratched and the adorably innocent Rambo will have you cackling out loud.
