Whilst we all wait patiently for The Seven Sisters #8 (May!), The Italian Daughter gives us our lighter historical fiction fix. The premise is that within a derelict home for unmarried mothers, seven little boxes are found, each containing something left behind for the child by their birth parents “in case they ever came looking”. Lily is given such a box as her grandmother’s heir and travels to Italy to follow the clues within the box to learn about her great-grandparents. Through dual timelines we learn why her grandmother was given up for adoption, and Lily might just find what she’s been looking for too. And in even better news, this will be a series following the different recipients of the boxes, with number two due later this year. Perfect for fans of Lucinda Riley.
