After spotting glowing reviews for The Paper Palace by Miranda Crowley Heller, I thought I’d better add it to my reading list. So glad I did. The writing is phenomenal and I loved how I started out feeling all bitter and twisted towards the main protagonist, Elle when she has an affair with her best friend, and by the end I totally get why it happened and how heartbreaking her situation is.

But this is so much more than a story about a happily married woman sleeping with another guy. It’s about trauma through generations, split second choices that affect the rest of our lives, the love and divides amongst families, and the special hold a place/setting can have over our hearts.

A beautiful, rich read with some darker moments. Poetic, atmospheric, and gripping. Would appeal to fans of Where the Crawdads Sing.

Highly recommended.
