This is storytelling as an art form. A glorious sweeping historical read filled with hope and beauty. If you want a book that will renew your faith in kindness, friendship, and humanity, this is it. Oh, and it’s set in stunning Italy, so that’s a pretty big drawcard too. So exceptionally well-written I found myself re-reading some of the lines over and over again. Without a doubt, a book that will be in my top ten reads of the year..
Still Life follows the lives of young British soldier, Ulysses Temper (what a name!) and sexagenarian art historian, Evelyn Skinner. Their accidental meeting on a Tuscan road during 1944 shapes their future in ways both startling and wonderful. My only wish is that the characters in this book were real because I fell in love with them: there’s every chance you will too.
