I have been a fan of Elizabeth McCracken for years (she just so happens to be best friends with author Ann Patchett) and this might be her finest book yet. It is just SO. DARN. CLEVER.

Ten months after her mother's death, the narrator takes a trip to London. As she wanders the streets, she finds herself reflecting on her complicated, extraordinary, larger–than-life mother. Part memoir, part travelogue, part writerly advice, this is everything I love in a book. It is crammed with wonderful prose, infused with warmth and wisdom, and is a beautiful examination of a mother-daughter relationship.
